A Deep Dive Into the Plot of An Erotica - Tied, Tortured, and Facesat
Looking at the plot of Tied, Tortured, and Facesat by the Girls Next Door - by Melanie Russell
Let’s take a close look at a successful erotica writer and her works. The first writer I would like to look at is
and her book Tied, Tortured, and Facesat by the Girls Next Door.Melanie Russell is an Australian who focuses on femdom and has published over a dozen titles on Amazon and publishes short stories and serials on Substack and Medium, too. She takes commissions to write bespoke pieces on Fiverr. She is also an upcoming interviewee on my substack My Pen, Her Whip.
Review
I enjoyed Tied, Tortured, and Facesat by the Girls Next Door a lot. The female characters were sassy and sexy. The man was relatable. The sex acts were hot, and they escalated nicely. I’ve found Melanie’s pacing is strong. I’ll have more commentary on how the plot is laid out, but if you’re into facesitting and humiliation at the hands of women, then it’s a recommended read.
Title
The first thing I want you to notice is that the title tells you exactly what is going to happen in the book. It is important that prospective readers know in general what your book is going to be about from the title and cover. You want to attract readers who are interested in the topic to the information page so that they purchase or download and read your book.
Your title doesn’t need to be as straightforward as the title to this particular work, but it must at least hint at the themes. Other titles on my bookshelf include:
Living With A Mistress by Katt Ford -- You know this book is about femdom (anyone in the target audience knows what “Mistress” means here), and you know the main character is going to be living with his dominator (in this case, it’s his step sister).
Schooled in Submission by T. Bell and B.L. Lacertae -- The title makes it clear this is a BDSM-themed erotica taking place at a school, and the cover image of a woman wearing lacy pantyhose establishes that it is most likely going to be femdom.
Bangkok Noir by Lisabet Sarai - The title here is more vague as to the specific plot because the book is longer--122 pages--and includes multiple storylines, but still, anyone knows that this story takes place in Bangkok and that it will include dark elements (including murder, in this case). If the reader doesn’t guess that it includes heavy elements of BDSM from the word “noir,” which is often associated with BDSM, they can tell from the cover image of a woman holding a stiff whip in a position in which she is ready to strike. The authors also took advantage of Amazon’s subtitle option adding “BDSM Erotic Suspense” after the colon. Usage of subtitles can emphasize the theme when the title is unclear or add some additional selling words.
Exposition
Melanie Russell jumps straight into an action scene in the first sentence.
“Oh come [on],” I laughed, “I’m like twice the height of all of you, and I’m older, there’s no way you can catch me!”
We immediately learn that the boy and girls on the street are playing a game in which we can guess the “loser” will have to suffer. We learn what is already stated in the title--that there are multiple girls involved--and, furthermore, the element of (light) age-play is introduced. The protagonist boy is twenty-two, and the girls are aged twenty and nineteen, so the age gap isn’t in dangerous territory, but that element does add something for those who fantasize about being dominated by young, innocent girls. That the boy, Rob, is tall and cocky makes it all the more exciting when the power roles shift.
Melanie Russell is particularly good at introducing characters smoothly and efficiently in a way that does not slow down the pace. The next couple of paragraphs introduce the setting and the female antagonists.
I leered at the three young women who’d circled me. We all lived on the same street, a cul-de-sac, to be specific, in a quiet suburb mostly populated with young families. The middle of the three, and the oldest of them, was Cass. Twenty, brunette with blonde streaks, big, blue eyes, soft cheeks...
Each woman gets a paragraph describing their attractive appearances and alluring personalities. Each lady embodies a popular archetype in femdom lit and roleplay. There’s Cass: “a little tom boyish at times;” Emma: “a bit of a no-nonsense type;” and Lily: “very effeminate, loved all things makeup... ... ...almost a cliché...”
The multiple character types will appeal to readers who are into different kinds of women--and a single reader who is into all of them.
Quickly, it becomes established that the group of neighborhood friends is playing a game of tag and that there are stakes:
“But if we get you, we get bragging rights, and that means us girls are officially superior to you.” Lisa giggled. “That means you have to do what we say! It’s the natural order!”
This occurs at about the 6% mark in the book. It establishes the theme and gives a reason for the reader to care about an otherwise trivial game of tag. At this point, nothing in the text of the story indicates what kind of “punishment” will await the eventual loser. Quickly, however, we find that Rob is actually a submissive guy who looks forward to what awaits him:
“Oh come on.” I exclaimed, secretly enticed by the punishment of losing.
I ignored the pang of arousal as Lily and Emma’s taunts teased my innate submissiveness.
There are some action scenes as he runs around and makes a show of resistance, but we already know he will lose, and he does at the 13% mark. One girls is standing over him. The other two are mocking him. It is great fodder for men who love to be dominated and humiliated by women.
At the 20% mark, Rob faces a choice that will alter his destiny. Either the girls sit on his face out in the open, or:
“Or we take you back to Lily’s room, sit on your face for who knows how long, subject you to various forms of humiliation, just to prove your inferiority, and you be our slave for, I dunno, two weeks?”
Inciting Incident and Sex Erotic Scenes
We can think of this as the inciting incident of the three act structure. Rob’s choice to take his punishment in the privacy of Lily’s room, to agree to be her slave, sets in motion the series of events that come next, the events that are alluded to in the book’s title.
Since the protagonist is established as a submissive, it’s not quite as high-stakes. More than a punishment, it would seem to be a dream come true. Still, the extremely long length of time he would be made to be a seat and the fact that there could be no way out makes it so it could be pushing him past his limit. He also has to fight his socially conditioned desire to be viewed as dominantly masculine, so he “feign[s] panic.” Ultimately, he chooses to serve his punishment as the ass slave in Lily’s room.
After Rob gets into the room, the girls tie their newfound “butt cushion” to the bed. The dialogue is sexy:
“Prepare yourself[,] Rob! You and my butt are about to become very close friends!”
“Oh my god, I can feel his nose against my asshole.”
From here, the activity gradually escalates, as the girls who sit on him push him deeper and deeper into submission, removing their clothes piece by piece to give him a more intimate experience of their asses, and demanding him to kiss and lick whilst they watch movies on his comfy face seat.
New twists are slowly revealed. We learn that one of the girls was a naturally-born dominant. This is part of the rising action that leads to the midpoint.
The plot can also be assessed through the hero’s journey framework. Rob encounters a series of challenges he must complete, from kissing each of their asses to licking their cute little assholes and more. At multiple points, Rob must confront the demons within his heart--those self-doubts that would stifle his journey into submission--and accept the fate that is laid before him.
It’s not exactly clear in novella-form erotica where the second plot-point is introduced. Erotica often continues in a gradual climb with the constant escalation, with more depraved, more sexy, and more kinky acts as the climax approaches. For me, I would identify the second plot point occurring around the 65% mark when Rob accepts his role as slave to each of the three girls.
Then, the climax begins around the 88% mark. Rob brings the first girl to, well, climax, with his tongue. I hope I’m not spoiling too much here, but this is an erotica!
The novella concludes with the denouement. Rob, once and for all, accepts his place as a slave.
Back Matter
Melanie Russell includes an “Afterword” in which she extolls the importance of leaving a review. Even with such notes, erotica books do not receive many reviews. Please remember to rate and review the books you read!
She uses her bio as a powerful selling tool. She states, “If you adore the sight of a man on his knees, or a powerful woman clad in latex, then Melanie is the author for you.”
Finally, she includes a list of the other books she has published with links to their purchase pages.
